Friday Finishes and One in Progress

I have two projects finished for Finish it Friday & Sew and Tell. The first project is a baby bunting called Hushabye Baby by Favorite Little Things. I made this for a fabric store I am working at part-time called Gentler Times. I think it turned out really lovely.
The fabric is by Jessica Swift at Blend Fabrics. The collection is called Preeti and is 100% cotton. The inside fabric is a minkee. This size is for 6-9 months. Overall, it was easy to make and the instructions were good. The zipper part was a little fiddley but I haven't had much experience with zippers. Once all the cutting is done, the project sews together relatively quickly. For the inside fabric, I saved some time by constructing the outside fabric pieces first and then used those pieces to cut the inside fabric pieces. The pattern has you piecing together the inside fabric the same way you do the outside but it doesn't seem necessary to me, just extra work.

I finally got around to making some of those darling gathered clutches by Noodlehead. I've seen many pictures of finished ones around blogosphere which kept reminding me to try one! The end of the school year is coming up (next week - yikes!), so I immediately thought - teacher gifts! Usually I give Starbucks gift cards and make something to put them in. In the past, I have made tissue huggers and mug rugs. How about gathered clutches? I found some pretty floral fabric and some cream colored fabric with coffee names printed on it - perfect! This is what I came up with:

The inside has a couple pockets for the gift card and I think a piece of costume jewelry would be fun too!

Lastly, I have finished some paper pieced tumbler blocks by Ayumi at Pink Penguin. These blocks remind me of summer fun which is just around the corner. Not sure what I am going to make with them yet... any ideas? They are for my girls - maybe notebook covers or shoulder bags?
They are super easy and fun to make. Whenever I get tired or frustrated with a long or complicated sewing project, I paper piece something. It's so much fun to use up scraps and it's quick!

Happy sewing!

  1. All your projects look great! Those clutches are great idea for teacher gifts. I still haven't tried paper piecing - your blocks are so cute - I might need to try those this weekend.

  3. These are all so great! Thanks for the teacher gift idea. I've made several of these clutches, and it would be a perfect gift for my son's Mandarin teacher, who is giving private lessons for free. (Amazing! Who does that??)

Ayumi really has adorable projects, doesn't she? I think your squares turned out nicely. Perhaps their own farmer's market bags, or outdoor placemats? The possibilities are nearly endless. :-) Enjoy your summer break!
